At Ransom: Manuscripts

I’m a sucker for notes, edited manuscripts, marginalia. Anything that opens a window to the working process of an author. The Harry Ransom Center at UT Austin has some heavy hitters–like DFW’s papers, for example. Or T. C. Boyle’s papers, of which this file folder is one example. It would be easy to get lost in their archives.

You could say that I’m obsessed with the obsessions of other writers, as evidenced by their scribbled notes. I like to think that I’m just one of a certain kind of breed. Like the archivist who cried when cataloguing the manuscripts from THE PALE KING. Now that’s devotion.
